Bamboo Towels Review and Buying guide

Information, advice, and Care

Bamboo towels are luxuriously soft to the touch and along with facecloths are wonderful for use by people with sensitive or eczema-prone skin, they make great beach towels, hand towels, and bath sheets. Bamboo towels and facecloths are made from bamboo fiber which is a soft and smooth fiber, non-irritating, and softer than even the softest cotton. Bamboo towels are especially suited to people with sensitive skin due to the cell structure of the fiber which is rounded at the ends instead of sharp. This means that it does not irritate or scratch the skin like towels made of other fibers such as cotton or hemp. The chemicals used in the production of bamboo towels are not as harsh as the chemicals used in the production of other materials such as cotton or man-made fibers, they can therefore be considered to be luxury towels.

Bamboo Towels Review and Buying guide

Bamboo fiber is exceptionally absorbent but is still as soft as cashmere and is naturally hypoallergenic. The fiber feels similar and acts rather like soft silk but is much less expensive and much more durable. Bamboo towels and facecloths are especially suited for use as baby towels and for use with children and make excellent kids beach towels. They are also excellent to use as travel towels and many people use them as beach towels.

Bamboo fiber has a unique ability to stop bacteria from multiplying and even kill it due to a bacteriostatic agent called bamboo Kun, meaning it can resist the bacteria that infect people with eczema and stop odor-producing bacteria from growing and spreading. All bamboo towels including designer towels, bath towel sets, and any bamboo towels on sale stay fresh and odor-free between washings.

Skin irritation is becoming more widespread these days and it is probably due to the increasing number of chemicals and pollutants our skin is subjected to each day. It is, of course, very difficult to avoid these pollutants and chemicals as they are found in soap, washing powders, perfumes, etc. But, using bamboo towels and facecloths is just one way to avoid exposing our skin to more chemicals and reduce irritation.

Bamboo is mildly anti-bacterial and so doesn’t build up a smell as quickly as other towels so it doesn’t need to be washed as often, therefore the skin does not come into contact with washing powder residue as often. Bamboo fiber is also incredibly smooth so there is much less irritation or “scratching” of the skin while drying yourself and the skin is less prone to damage allowing bacteria to enter.

Bamboo fiber is an environmentally friendly product and is an easily renewable resource, when the towels have reached the end of their useful life, which is a very long life, they can be added to the compost heap and with the action of soil and sun they are completely biodegradable, they disintegrate into the earth so there is no need for them to go off to the landfill site.

Although they are not cheap towels and you can’t expect beautiful new bamboo towels to have the fluffiness of new cotton towels because they can feel thin and silky compared to a cotton towel, however, you will find that they dry you so much faster than cotton towels being 3 to 4 times more absorbent they literally suck up all the moisture in seconds and an added advantage is that they do not go hard after they have been washed. Whether you choose hand towels, bath towels, bath sheets, or towels sets, bamboo towels are luxury towels and are considered by most to be the most excellent quality towels.

 Care of Your Bamboo Towels

It is advisable to launder bamboo towels before first using them, as the towels normally come straight from the manufacturing process and have not been through any wet processes like cotton toweling. The towels are not normally bleached or scoured after the weaving process.

Bamboo towels should be washed on a 30 degree Celsius or lower temperature delicate wash and naturally dried or a very low heat tumble dry. The towels will normally shrink after the first wash as this is a natural product, so must be expected, however, bamboo is a very environmentally friendly product because it can be washed at low temperature, therefore, saving energy and money during the washing process. It is not recommended that a fabric conditioner is used when washing bamboo towels as it can reduce the benefits of the bamboo by blocking the micro fibers causing reduced absorbency and as bamboo is so naturally soft and fresh due to its properties why would you want to use fabric conditioner anyway?
