1. Cotton

Cotton is a natural fiber that comes in both Egyptian and Upland varieties. It absorbs moisture rapidly and releases it slowly, making cotton one of the best materials for use as a towel. Its soft feel also makes it great for absorbing sweat and keeping things cool. However, it does have its drawbacks. Because cotton is a natural material, it may not suit everyone's skin type.

Those who suffer from eczema tend to react poorly to the fiber, and using cotton can cause irritation. If you think you might have an allergy to cotton, consider using bamboo instead. Bamboo retains the same qualities as cotton but is 100% free of chemical additives.

 2. Bamboo

Bamboo is an entirely different kind of plant than cotton, but they do share some similar characteristics. Both are renewable and biodegradable, and they are suitable for commercial and home use. Though bamboo doesn't have any chemicals applied to it, it still isn't recommended for those with severe allergies.

Unlike cotton, bamboo is hypoallergenic and more breathable. Even if you don't have an allergy, it's still a good idea to avoid using bamboo in case of stains. Bamboo tends to attract dirt and grime easily, meaning that even a small drop of liquid could leave a stain.

 3. Hemp

Hemp is one of the oldest forms of cloth known to man. It is naturally resistant to mildew and mold and can be woven into almost anything. It is considered to be one of the strongest fibers around today. While hemp is ideal for industrial purposes, it is also a popular choice for personal care products due to its lightweight quality and high absorbent capacity.

Hemp absorbs water quickly and dries out at a much slower rate than cotton and bamboo. The drawback to hemp is that it is difficult to dye, and many people find that its texture feels a bit scratchy.

 4. Jute

Jute is a natural fiber that grows abundantly in India and Bangladesh, though it is now being grown elsewhere.

It is incredibly strong and durable and is often used to make ropes and twine. Like hemp, jute is extremely versatile and can be used anywhere that cotton or bamboo would work. It offers excellent air permeability and comfort while drying out quickly. However, it is less absorbent than bamboo and cotton and can become stiff after prolonged exposure to water.

 5. Orchid Silk

Orchid silk is made from the cocoon of the African Giant Spider Web Moth. It maintains a unique blend of elasticity and resilience that makes it perfect for towels and clothing. Its fine weave means that it can be used in virtually any fabric, although it works best in lighter-weight fabrics.

It is also highly durable and flexible, and it remains soft even after repeated washing and dry cleaning. Its low luster makes it a great option for people who struggle with acne and blemishes.

 6. Sea Grass

Sea grass is a natural alternative for many people who suffer from eczemas or psoriasis.

It helps to regulate the body's pH levels and is rich in protein and Vitamin D. When washed regularly, sea grass becomes softer and smoother. As long as it's properly cleaned, it should be safe for everyone to use.

 7. Wool

Wool is one of the most luxurious fibers available. It is warm and comfortable and breathes well. In fact, wool is so effective that it can keep a person warm in winter without overheating.

In addition to its warmth, it is also hypoallergenic, and experts claim that it actually reduces the likelihood of allergic reactions. People who are allergic to wool sometimes report feeling nothing when using wool-based products. However, it can take a few weeks before a person begins to feel comfortable wearing wool. It is possible to wash wool in a machine, but you will need to handwash it to get the full benefit of its properties.
