VETO OF THE USA Everything that Huawei mobiles could lose (apart from Android)

The sanctions of the United
States have caused several companies to announce that they will stop working
with Huawei and others will consider it.
Just a week after the sanctions were
announced to Huawei that theoretically
will suppose the exit of the phones of the company of the ecosystem Android,
the manufacturer is before an even greater challenge. The operating system
is not the only one of its problems.
The next Huawei devices could use the alternative
operating system that the company has been developing for some time,
although there is little information about it or
how advanced it is. However, it would lose access to Google services, from Gmail to
YouTube, through Maps. And do not forget that Microsoft also joined the
veto and it is not so clear that there is an alternative to Windows.
However, this problem could be overcome and
the company could even get a good position in the Chinese market in which, in
any case, many of these services
are not available. But those that have emerged this week
are not so easy to ignore and, in addition, put the company in a situation of
enormous disadvantage: it is the only one that runs with obstacles in this
race.
The first of these fences figured was the SD Association, which eliminated
Huawei from its list of members. The association guarantees the
right to use basic patents, standards and other technologies that allow the use
of these cards to expand the memory of telephones (or laptops, although in this
case it would be less worrisome to have more alternatives).
A similar case is that of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, a non-governmental organization that has to give its approval so that
manufacturers can incorporate this technology into their terminals. Well, it is
rumored that they could join the veto.
Who has already joined is The Wi-Fi Alliance, the
organization in charge of everything related to the Wi-Fi standard. That
is, something much more complicated to replace than previous technologies. If
there is a moat after those fences, it
would have alligators. Of course, in this case, according
to Gizmodo, it would not allow him to certify new products, but he
could use the chips that were already certified. It's something.
Anyway, the biggest hit to the waterline is the
one that gave ARM. Telephones need a processor like cars a motor. It does
not matter if it is diesel, gasoline or electric, as long as something moves
the wheels, there is no turning back. Obviously, it does not have to be
one developed by ARM - the P30 Pro, for example, uses a Kirin 980 - but it does need its
architecture. And remember that Qualcomm and Intel are not going to work
with the Chinese firm either.
The company, for its part, defends itself. In a statement sent to PIXEL, he explains that "a number of industry
associations and standards have taken the decision to pause some aspects of
their collaboration with Huawei, in
response to political pressure ." Thus, although they
are "disappointed", they say that "they will not affect"
their daily operations.
Huawei also recalls that it is "an active
member of more than 400 organizations of standards, industrial alliances and
open source communities" and that "it has not violated the statutes
of any of these organizations."
"However, a small group of them has
decided to suspend our collaboration, without any legal basis," they
continue. These actions "go against the principles that they intend
to maintain" and " undermine
their credibility as international organizations, " they
point out, although without directly pointing to any of these organizations. They
also, warn that "decisions like this one will
lead to fragmented standards " and that "they will only
serve to increase costs and risks for all companies along with the value
chain".
The only good news is that this probably has
more repercussions in the medium or long term, since all the work is done until
the sanctions take effect - for the moment they have been delayed three
months - would not be lost and in that time Huawei, China, and the United
States can reach some kind of agreement.
If not, the company, which believes that
"these actions do not
represent the will of the industry, " will have to start
patching, developing technology and own standards or assume that they will have
to launch a phone without access to Google services. , Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, SD
card slot and processor. For now.
